The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of SRM Valliammai Engineering College has conducted Six days Faculty Development Programme on the of “1905303-Electrical Machines -I”from12th June to 17th June 2023 in the EEE Department Seminar Hall. In the Faculty Development Programme, the Five resource persons has delivered the presentation. In First day, the session was presented by Dr. R. Arivalahan, Professor/EEE, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai. He delivered lecture about the Magnetic circuits –Laws governing magnetic circuits - Flux linkage, Inductance and energy – Statically and Dynamically induced EMF - Torque – Properties of magnetic materials, Hysteresis and Eddy Current losses - AC excitation, introduction to permanent magnets- Transformer as a magnetically coupled circuit. The Second day the session presented by Dr. Ganesh Kumar Srinivasan, Professor/EEE, Anna University, CEG, Chennai.He delivered lecture about the Energy in magnetic system – Field energy and co energy-force and torque equations – singly and multiply excited magnetic field systems-mmf of distributed windings – Winding Inductances-, magnetic fields in rotating machines – rotating mmf waves – magnetic saturation and leakage fluxes. The Third day the session presented byDr. C. S. Boopathi, Associate Professor/EEE, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. He delivered lecture about the Construction – principle of operation – equivalent circuit parameters – phasor diagrams, losses – testing – efficiency and voltage regulation-all day efficiency- Sumpner’s test, per unit representation – inrush current - three phase transformers- connections – Scott Connection – Phasing of transformer– parallel operation of three phase transformers-auto transformer – tap changing transformers- tertiary winding. The Fourth day the session presented byDr. K. Saravanan, Associate Professor/EEE, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai.He delivered lecture about the Construction and components of DC Machine – Principle of operation - Lap and wave windings-EMF equations– circuit model – armature reaction –methods of excitation- commutation - interpoles compensating winding – characteristics of DC generators. The Fifth day the session presented by Dr. S. Malathi, Associate Professor/EEE, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai. He delivered lecture about the principle and operations - types of DC Motors – Speed Torque Characteristics of DC Motors- starting and speed control of DC motors –Plugging, dynamic and regenerative braking- testing and efficiency – Retardation test- Swinburne’s test and Hopkinson’s test – Permanent Magnet DC (PMDC) motors-applications of DC Motor. The Sixth day of FDP, We Visited the RETECH LASERS, Tambaram as an Industrial Visit. The Sessions were completed and the coordinators of the event conveyed thanks to Experts and Participants. The Staff Members interacted with the Experts very much and also cleared their doubts. The Participants of Teaching Faculties found the sessions very informative, motivate and they also had exposure to research activities and its importance.
