The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of SRM Valliammai Engineering College has conducted International Seminar on the Topic of “Technology Trends in Autonomous Cars” on 23rd October 2020 at 6.00 P.M to 7.00 P.M through the MicroSoft Teams (Online Mode) for Internal and External Staff Members and Students. The Session was presented by the Resource Person Mr. Abhiram Thuraga, B.E.,M.E.,(MBA) (Alumni). He discussed briefly about basic principle and working of Autonomous Cars. He mentioned different SAE level of automation cars and also discussed working of autonomous cars with playing videos. He explained about various building blocks of automated driving like vehicle control, sensing, processing and decision making and also explained various sensors used in autonomous cars such as Radar, Camera, Lidar, Sonar, GPS positioning, sophisticated software and hardware. He briefly discussed about software architecture and also shared overview of few automated driving functions like ACC keeping support, Integrated Cruise Assist, Highway Assist, Highway Pilot and Auto Pilot and pointed out some hurdles faces during implementation of project and potential advantages and disadvantages of autonomous cars. He shared list of companies investing in autonomous vehicle and strategic partnership and contribution of different leading companies for automakers, auto parts providers, technology provider and service provider. The participants found that the International seminar was very informative and also had exposure to Technology trends in autonomous cars and its importance for the future.
